Jeff Savage has been the Senior Pastor of First Baptist Church of Springfield since 1988. Prior to being called to Springfield, Jeff served on the ministry teams of the First Baptist Churches of Santa Barbara, Coatesville, Phoenix, and San Diego.
A graduate of Westmont College and the Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary, Jeff completed his Doctor of Ministry degree through Fuller Seminary in 2001. The focus of his doctoral work was on growing the church into a community of healthy, committed, Christ-following spiritual leaders. Currently, Jeff is pursuing training in the art of spiritual direction.
Jeff was ordained in 1983 and has been an American Baptist since his teens. He currently serves the wider family as a member of the Journey Team for the “Transformed by the Spirit” (an initiative committed to revitalizing our life together), and as part of the leadership team for “Rhythms of the Spirit” contemplative conferences.
Jeff is blessed to share life with his wife, Janet, who is a certified music practitioner, gifted leader, and partner in the founding and development of their Riverview Retreat. He is also a proud Dad and Pop Pop — just ask him about his three grandchildren! Jeff enjoys spending time with his family, tending garden, reading, fishing, camping, and watching the sunrise.
