When they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God with boldness. — Acts 4:31
With the FBCS Worship and Ministry Theme for 2013, our Focus is on: The Book of Acts and Learning to follow Jesus by the Power of God’s Spirit.
In his first book (The Gospel According to Luke), Luke wrote about God=s amazing work of grace in and through Jesus. Now, in his second book (The Book of Acts), he tells the story of this amazing work as it is accomplished by the Holy Spirit in and through the followers of Jesus.
We who have as our mission Growing Together, Reaching Out, and Training Leaders have much to learn from the stories of Jesus= earliest followers as they, together, journey into an unknown future of discovery, renewal, and transformation by the grace and power of the Holy Spirit.
Goal: To live Spirit-empowered lives characterized by Agreat power@and Agreat grace@(Acts 4:33) as we together lean into God=s future of discovery, renewal and transformation.
Practice: Reading the book of Acts Together
Continuing Luke=s story of God=s love extended to all, with no regard for boundaries and limits, we will now center our attention on the Book of Acts throughout this year. As we continue to journey with Luke and his companions, we will be encouraged, challenged, and, as we allow and invite it, filled and empowered by the Holy Spirit to be Jesus= bold witnesses beyond boundaries and limits today (Acts 1:8).
Last year, as we studied Luke, an emphasis was placed upon reading through that book once each month. As we now turn our attention to a study of the book of Acts, I invite you to join me in following the same monthly reading pattern. A suggested reading schedule will be posted on the FBCS calendar throughout the year.
May we all be Transformed by the Spirit as we journey through this year together!
Grace and Peace, Pastor Jeff
